My name is Cassandra Walters and this is my third year in the education department here at NMU. I was born in Las Vegas, NV and my family moved to Manistique when I was 8 years old. My parents still live there while I live here alone in Marquette. I'm the oldest sibling of one sister, Samantha (Sami), and a brother, Anthony (Tony). Tony graduated the lineman program just last year and now he's working as a apprentice in Iowa. Sami graduated Naval basic training last spring, spent 6 months in A school down on the naval base in Pensacola, FL, and now she lives in CA, attending classes to get her certification in avionics, or programming computers for air crafts.
My hobbies include reading, hammocking, swimming, playing video games, binge watching TV, doing crafty stuff like sketching, painting, or puzzles. I also really like to cook and experiment with new ingredients and recipes. I depend on a daily caffeine fix to function and my cat, Figaro, to keep me going. Over the past year, I've started learning sign language and the ukulele. I also just moved into my first one bedroom apartment as I was previously in a studio apartment living out of a mini fridge.
I decided to go into teaching because my mom is a teacher and I've grown up in classrooms and around young kids all my life. I didn't have a very positive experience with teachers growing up and I'd like to take what I've learned and use it to be the very best teacher I can possibly be. I'm not very good at science, but I'm going to try my very best to learn all I can.
